Anna Vissi

Biography

This weeks artist is maybe less famous as the other, but because of the special request we've decided to add her anyway!

Anna Vissi is Greece's #1 female artist, winning many awards and selling multi-platinum albums. She is also the most successful singer in Cyprus, while she is really famous in Turkey and Australia. Anna Vissi is a charismatic woman, and that translates into her music, where her hypnotic and powerful voice makes her an instant stand-out on radio stations (told you she has "siren" genes in her).

Once in Greece (and after having won contests and participating in the Eurovision Song Competition), it didn't take long for Anna to begin working with reputable producers, for starters, Nikos Karvelas.



Everything I Am - Album

Her first international album "Everything I Am" was released 4 years ago and she is going to release her second one soon. In 2000, she performed in Royal Albert Hall in London and she has achieved very important collaborations such as with one of the best choreographers all over the world, Mia Michaels (Drowned World, Madonna).

Anna Vissi was preparing her first international project "Everything I Am" for over a year. She recorded her first full-length English-language debut album, which was eventually released throughout Europe during the summer. The first single from the album "Everything I Am" was composed by Nikos Karvelas, with lyrics by Paul Barry. The rest of the tracklisting includes songs by some of the top international songwriters such as Russ Ballard, Mark Taylor, Graham Stack, Steve Torch, Paul Stanley, Tina Shafer, Julian Harris, Danielle Gerber and, of course, Nikos Karvelas. The album was produced by Brian Rawling (Cher's "Believe"; Enrique Iglesias); Ric Wake (Celine Dion) and Peter Asher (Linda Ronstadt, Diana Ross and Cher).



Mala - album

Taking chances is what Anna Vissi is all about. In 2002, "Mala", a musical that took place in Athens, was the challenge she set to conquer in her search of new expressional dimensions. Not only did Anna Vissi pass her acting ambitions with flying colours, but she left in awe everyone who observed her inexhaustible talent on stage.

It was a true love story that takes place during the second world war. The soundtrack to the musical has now been released containing all 27 symphonic
tracks.

Paraxenes Ikones

Last December Anna Vissi released her Greek 2-cd album "Paraxenes Ikones" that achieved double platinum. Her song "Ise" appeared to be the most successful dance song of the year and it is already nominated for "best pop-dance song" of the year in the Arion Music Awards 2004.

In 2004, Anna is the main attraction at the celebrations for Cyprus' entry in the E.U., performing in front of 80 000 people. A successful tour in England and the USA follows, which is completed with a huge concert in Cyprus on 03/09. She also performs at the Closing Ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Anna is currently in the USA, preparing and promoting her new songs. The first single will be the English version of "Ise", "Call me", and is expected to be released before Christmas. Her music has already been mixed by famous DJs in the states such as Vic Latino, Chris "The Greek" Panaghi and DJ Riddler. KTU radio, the most popular in New York, included "Call Me" in its playlists.
