Greece: ERT denies that there were songs given to Anna Vissi for the Greek representation

The name of Anna Vissi to represent Greece was emerged when herself made a statement on television and radio, saying that under the right conditions she would represent Greece in the Athens 2006 Eurovision edition. The Greek media automatically assummed she received a proposal from ERT and she would have said yes to the national broadcaster. Today though the story clarifies once and for all:

Greek tabloid Espresso reports that Anna Vissi said she heard some of the songs proposed to her by the broadcaster but she had no time to devote in the project. Espresso reports today: "We might have waited Anna Vissi to be announced as the 2006 representative for Eurovision but the answer was 'no'. Three weeks ago there was a proposal for which ERT knew they will receive a negative answer but on the way Anna Vissi let ERT to think there might be a chance to accept. In order to accept she needed a good song, some of which got in her hands and she gave them a thought. Though she wanted a song which will bring Greece in the top again. It is said that there was a song or two she felt confindent for, but another problem emerged. Her succesful appearances at Votanikos Muisc Center and her schedule forced her to say, again, no to Eurovision." (by Kostas Konstantinou, Espresso)

Almost every year, the names of Anna Vissi and Despina Vandi emerge as the first to receive proposals by ERT but so far and officially non of these were ever confirmed. ERT is not only denying any proposal to Ms. Vissi but the broadcaster emphasizes that there were never songs given to Ms. Vissi as ERT states. The statement has the following base: ERT has not made an open call for authors to submit songs. Also ERT is not a record company to provide or search for songs.

Who will represent Greece in 2006? Just like last year, ERT is still having time to negotiate with various artists. Last year the announcement of Helena Paparizou took place on January 22. In the previous years we were learning the Greek entry around March so the fear some might have, that we are out of time, is unfounded. Surely ERT pays more attention to the 2006 entry for Eurovision cause by definition is one of the most serious choices ever made by ERT.
