Greece: ERT along with the viewers for the song by March 10 as announced [update]
Anna Vissi reveals in the today’s edition of the weekly magazine «Down Town» why she decided to represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest. The only reason is to strengthen the Greek delegation. And I will honestly do it with a lot of exhilaration and joy. She confesses that her appearance is not a matter of a first place or a beginning of a new career, but only a way in which Greece will have the most important and perfect in all aspects entry in Eurovision.
Last week, Anna was in Thessalonica, giving interviews to radio stations. When asked about the possibility of representing Greece in the Contest, she said: I’d only do it for one reason: to have the most assertive presence. It’s difficult to speak of a first place again, but our aim is to achieve the highest position, keeping a high level in all the fields.
According to the magazine, Nicos Carvelas, her life-time partner, was positive from the beginning, believing that Anna’s appearance in Eurovision would be a good step not only for her but for the country as well. You have absolutely nothing to lose, only win, appears to have said to Anna.
The magazine claims that Anna accepted ERT’s proposal, after being exhorted by her sponsor (and also major sponsor of the Contest) Cosmote. A close partner of hers, appears to say that Anna made that decision because she thought it would be a very good chance to get in touch and talk with foreigners for Greece and «invite» them to our Eurovision.
Not too many information are yet known, however the magazine says that Mia Michaels (her choreographer in «Votanikos» night club, also famous from the Las Vegas Show with Celine Dion) will most probably be behind her appearance on stage. A press conference is scheduled in the following days, while the song will have been selected by the 10th of March.
The magazine, under the title Euro-vissi-on, also makes a small review on Anna’s past relations with Eurovision: her two entries, the first being for Greece in 1980 with Autostop (ranked 13th) and the second in 1982, with Mono I agapi for Cyprus (ranked 5th), and also her other appearances in the greek and Cypriot finals: in 1986 in Cyprus (Thelo na gino star / I want to be a star) and in 1989 in Greece (Kleo / I’m crying). Anna will start the promo tour in March, while she’s going to give a concert in the Royal Albert Hall in London, in 27th of May.
update There are two provisional dates for the Greek Song Selection. The dates are March 2 and March 9. Last year Greece selected on March 2. The preselection will take place most likely at Votanikos Music Hall which is estimated to host around 2.500 auditors. Various composers have submitted already songs to Sony BMG which along with ERT will narrow them down to 3-5. Tomorrow both will decide if the songs will be adequate for the Greek selection and Anna Vissi. If not Nikos Karvelas has stand by several songs and he might be the only composer in the selection. Though no one can exclude Nikos Karvelas to enter the preselection among other composers. Three composers directly related with Eurovision preselections are already among the ones who submitted their own songs. One of them is the... usual suspect!

Cyprus: Mr. Pavlides clarifies situation between Greece and Cyprus conflict created by media
The Greek media since day one started to doubt how much beneficial the Anna Vissi entrance in Eurovision (again!) would be for her and Greece. Some newspapers claimed that Cyprus is furious with Anna Vissi choosing Greece over Cyprus as country to represent in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. Today though CyBC clarified things through the general director of CyBC, Mr. Andros Pavlides.
Although Mr. Pavlidis appeared in a noon gossip show of a private TV station, he managed to clarify the 'crisis' as some Greek media and newspaper created. The case was the following. The newspapers said that CyBC is furious with Anna Vissi who said no to CyBC for the 2006 Eurovision. A television station said that CyBC couldn't afford Ms. Vissi and her participation for Eurovision.
The answer was clear: "Yes, we would like to see Anna Vissi to represent Cyprus but there is no crisis between Greece and Cyprus as we consider our efforts in Eurovision as common. Either Greece or Cyprus win, it is the same for us. We are happy to see this time a Greek Cypriot representing Greece. This participationg also represents Cypriots who are also proud. It is the right of Ms. Vissi to choose for which country to sing. We will choose our own song and we are sure we will compete equally with Greece" were some of the statements made by Mr. Pavlides.
Although indeed Cypriots have mixed feelings for the participation of Anna Vissi for Eurovision representing Greece and feel a bit dissapointed as she didn't choose to represent her birth country, the Greek media are trying to make a fuzz out of this. Mr. Pavlides admitted there was a sounding approach with Ms. Vissi. The Greek newspapers and media in a very severe moment for the contest started to create fuzz almost for everything instead of supporting the national effort of ERT to promote the best of Greece. Maybe the professional journalists should have been a bit patient first to see the outcome and then they can write anything they want!
Greece: five songs for Anna Vissi to be announced soon; possible date is now March 9
The puzzle is almost done. There will be five songs from which the viewers along with a potential national jury will choose the 2006 Greek entry for Eurovision Song Contest. Despite the provisional date announced in websites for March 12, Anna Vissi fan website also confirms Down Town article saying that the song will be chosen by March 10 the latest. Thus the two provisional dates are March 2 and 9 with the last to be the most possible. Though we still await confirmation on the date. The venue will be Votanikos Music Hall since it is a familiar place for her. Since November 2005 Anna performs live there almost every day. Here are more details as given to us by our new colleagues from the fan site of Anna Vissi:
"I'm just doing this for one reason, really: To give a very powerful image of Greece to the rest of the world. It's statistically difficult to talk about coming first again, but the sure thing is that we will aim high and exhibit a very high standard in all areas. The only reason that pushes me to be a part of the Eurovision contest is to empower the Greek presence in this event and I'm honestly doing this with great eagerness and pleasure!"
This extract about the ESC is quoted from Anna's latest interview at "Down Town" magazine. During the press conference, that will take place on Tuesday, 31st of January at 13:00, all the details of the Greek entry will be announced. Mia Michaels is expected to be in charge of the choreography, after the success of her cooperation with Anna at Votanikos. By 02/3/06 the song of the Greek delegation will also be decided upon and known. The procedure will be the same as last year: the public will be asked to choose, during a show, between 5 songs.
